The 15th of each month is the deadline for completing breeding plans for births on the 1st of the following month. Things happen quickly on Newturf! Each mare must have a stallion carefully chosen for her and if the stallion is owned by another, a fee must be negotiated for the pairing.
The Buzz yard is fortunate enough to have a strong band of stallions of its own, suitable for most kinds of mares, to make searching for outside stallions limited to just a few mares each season. We currently have 31 broodmares we intend to breed as well as a further 12 possibles.

There are many things to consider when choosing a stallion for your mares. Selecting a good quality stallion is important and ideally you would use a stallion that is similar in type. A precocious or early type mare would benefit best from a stallion that was also precocious. Choose a sprinting stallion for a sprint mare, a staying stallion for a long distance mare.
There are many finer points to breeding too that we may also cover at some point but with up to 43 mares to book stallions for and only one week in which to complete the task, the Buzz team have got their hands full!
